Vaio announces new Vaio Z laptop
The Japanese company Vaio has revived the Vaio Z laptop. The former Sony branch is releasing a high-end 13.3″ ultrabook in Japan with a battery life of more than 15 hours. In addition, there will be a Canvas variant with a detachable keyboard.
The new Vaio Z is equipped with a Core i7-5557U or Core i5-5257U, both in combination with Iris 6100 GPU. The laptop will have 8GB or 16GB of memory and a PCI-e SSD with storage capacity of 128, 256 or 512GB. The matte 13.3 “screen shows a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels and can be folded for a tablet mode. The laptop is 16.8 mm thick and has a housing made of aluminum and carbon fiber, bringing the weight to 1.34 kg.
The battery life is according to the company 15.2 to 15.5 hours and this would have been achieved through adjustments to the cells of the battery, while a special display option for less viewing angles, but even longer battery life. Vaio also announced its Vaio Z Canvas; the 2-in-1 laptop with a 12.1″ screen with a resolution of 2560×1704 pixels, of which the company already showed a prototype.
The new Vaio Z will cost 190,000 yen in Japan, converted that is 1410 euros. The Vaio Z Canvas will be a fraction more expensive. Both systems will be released in Japan in May. Whether a worldwide introduction will follow is still unknown.
