Users with a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription are complaining about performance issues when playing Nintendo 64 games through that service. The games, which run on the Switch via emulation, have input lag and frame rate problems.

Nintendo released the new Switch Online subscription with N64 games on Tuesday. Users reported several issues on social media and the ResetEa forum shortly after this release, IGN also noted. For example, users write that they suffer from input lag on several N64 games, including The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Players are also reporting audio delay. Of those are several examples shared on Twitter, which occurred in online multiplayer sessions. In those cases, the Switch indicates that there is an unstable internet connection, even though a user also reports that he was using the console with an Ethernet cable.

Furthermore, N64 games on the Switch would struggle with strange button layouts, where, for example, the A and B buttons are reversed. Users cannot manually adjust these layouts. Games like Yoshi’s Story and Star Fox 64 have reported frame rate issues; Mario Kart 64 would be dealing with texture issues. Eurogamer writes that it is also impossible to save ghost data in Mario Kart and that only the Japanese version of Mario 64 supports controller vibrations.

Nintendo has not yet responded to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack issues. The company announced this subscription in September. It includes the full content of the regular NSO subscription, including cloud saves and online multiplayer, but also adds the ability to play Nintendo 64 and SEGA Mega Drive games. The subscription costs 40 euros per year. At release, the service will feature several N64 games; games such as The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, Banjo-Kazooie, Mario Golf, Pokémon Snap, Paper Mario and F-Zero X will follow at a later date.
