Users put Surface Pro in the freezer to fix screen flickering
Owners of a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 whose screen is flickering have opened the Flickergate website to persuade Microsoft to come up with a solution. In the meantime, it helps to put the Surface Pro 4 in the freezer for a while.
On Flickergate, users of the Surface Pro 4 with the problem post photos and videos that show jitters in the display and rapid image changes. One owner of the tablet, George Visvikis, shows that the flickering stops if he puts the Surface Pro in the freezer for a while, but emphasizes that it is only a temporary solution and that the problem will reappear after a few minutes.
The site, with a call not to purchase the Surface Pro until the issue is resolved, claims to be speaking with an SP4 on behalf of more than 1,800 Microsoft customers. According to users, the problem usually occurs one year after purchase, if the warranty has already expired in the US.
Microsoft has not yet released a software update for the display issues and some users may experience the same issue with replacement models. The first reports of the flickering appeared on Microsoft’s support page as early as early 2017.
Microsoft told The Verge that it is aware of the situation and is “keep a close eye on it”. The company recommends that customers report problems to the company’s support department. According to The Verge, this is a hardware problem that cannot be solved with a software update. The site reports that less than one percent of tablets have been affected by the issues.
