Users of Nexus smartphones have problems with notifications Gmail
Several users of Nexus smartphones seem to have problems receiving notifications on their device. The problems mainly occur with Gmail on the Nexus 6P. The issues may have something to do with the Marshmallow update.
There has been a thread on Google’s support forums for some time where users report problems getting notifications for new email messages in the Gmail app. Missing notifications are also reported on other forums, including GoT. Users must first open and refresh the Gmail app for the notifications to arrive. Google employees have responded, making the shortcoming known within the company. However, it is still unclear whether and when a solution will be found.
Mainly owners of the Nexus 6P are reporting missing email notifications. A number of users of the Nexus 5X and some other smartphones also appear to have been affected, although it is not clear how widespread the problems are there. Some other apps also suffer from notifications that do not come through, including Google’s alternative email application Inbox.
A number of Nexus 6P users claim that the issues started after installing the update to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. However, it is not yet entirely clear whether there is a causal relationship with the notification problems. There are also Android users who already suffered from missing notifications before the Marshmallow update.
