Users complain about iPhone 6 Plus bending in the pocket
Users of the iPhone 6 Plus in particular complain that the phone bends in pockets. The reason for this seems to be the size of the phone in combination with the thin, metal housing. If the phone is bent, it will not return to its original shape.
This is in contrast to large phones from Samsung, for example, which are also bendable but, thanks to their plastic housing, bend back to their original shape, as can be seen in a video from video site Unbox Therapy. The iPhone also bends, but partly retains its curved shape.
Photos have surfaced on various forums of users claiming to have held the iPhone 6 Plus in their pocket, where it bent. That happened, for example, when they sat down. Despite their curved shape, the iPhones seem to continue to function.
One Reddit user notes that the problem isn’t limited to iPhones: his iPod touch, with a similarly thin metal construction, also started to bend over time: he unsuccessfully claimed warranty from Apple.
It is unknown how common the problem is with the new iPhones. The fact that bending is possible is obvious due to the combination of the small thickness and the almost completely aluminum housing. Aluminum is easy to form. Thin phones have had such problems for as long as they have existed. Users of the 2007 Samsung X820, slightly thinner than the iPhone 6 Plus, complained at the time about broken devices under the same conditions. Also with the release of the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 5s, reports appeared about curved devices, such as with Cult or Mac.
