Facebook users can hardly reach the social network on Monday evening. Both the social network’s site and apps seem to be down. Where previously an error message appeared, now the site is no longer available in its entirety.

The outage appears to have started around 9 a.m. or a quarter past nine. It is unknown what caused the disruption and whether everyone is affected by it. According to DownHere, there are also countries where Facebook is more accessible. The Facebook status page itself is unreachable.

The social network has not yet said anything about the cause of the outage and how long it may last. Facebook also suffered from an outage four days ago, but it lasted for a shorter period of time.

Update, 22:55: Facebook seems to be back online for the majority of users. The exact reason behind the downtime is not yet known. Facebook talks about a ‘Facebook-wide issue’ on its status page and speaks of a ‘Major Outage’.
