Skype is integrated into OneDrive with the online version of Microsoft Office, Office Online. Skype has announced this via its blog. In doing so, Microsoft continues to expand the number of services it has integrated with Skype.

In October 2015, Microsoft introduced the link between Office Online and Skype. Now it is also possible to use Skype directly from OneDrive. Files opened from OneDrive are opened directly in the online versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint or OneNote. Skype messages are by default on the right side of the screen. The chat history is kept with the documents themselves. Skype is also integrated into Outlook.com, with which, in addition to an e-mail, a Skype message can be sent directly to the person concerned.

With the ever-increasing integration of Skype into various Microsoft Office products, the company seems to be taking action to compete with the communication service Slack. It was recently announced that Microsoft had plans to acquire Slack for $8 billion. In addition to Skype, the company from Redmond owns many more communication platforms, such as SharePoint, Yammer and Skype for Business, the former Lync.
