US judge will consider X lawsuit against Media Matters in April 2025
X's lawsuit against the American media watchdog Media Matters will start in April 2025. X sued Media Matters over a loss of advertisers resulting from a Media Matters report.
Media Matters published a report in November 2023 in which the watchdog reported, among other things, that X placed advertisements from major companies next to content praising Adolf Hitler and the Nsdap. Various advertisers, including Apple, Walt Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery and Comcast subsequently withdrew.
The social medium sued Media Matters a week after the publication of the report. The company states that Media Matters is legally liable for the financial loss that X suffers because advertisers withdraw. X further says that the images of advertisements next to neo-Nazi content in the report were fabricated by the non-profit organization. “Media Matters has manipulated the algorithms that govern the user experience on are: manufactured, inorganic and exceedingly rare,” the complaint reads.
The lawsuit about this will start on April 7, 2025, writes Reuters now. Media Matters chairman Angelo Carusone said last year that the nonprofit stands behind its reporting and looks forward “to winning in court.”
