US government agencies must assess digital risks after Trump decree

US President Donald Trump wants to improve the digital security of government agencies by requiring government organizations to use a framework of standards. The decree can count on the support of experts.

As a result of the decree, government organizations but also energy networks must be better protected against digital attacks in the future, Trump claims in the decree. Trump places great emphasis on a National Institute of Standards and Technology framework for assessing risk.

The policy in the decree is a continuation of the policy of the previous president Barack Obama, who already consulted with companies about the voluntary implementation of the framework. With the new rules, governments will now also assess the risks in this way, writes Reuters news agency.

Before Trump signed the decree, his administration consulted with digital security experts, which caused the US president to sign later than intended.
