US gives Huawei another delay on trade restrictions
The United States is said to be willing to suspend trade restrictions on Huawei again. The authorities would again like to postpone the ban on trading with American companies for another 90 days.
This reports Reuters news agency on the basis of unspecified sources. Huawei could continue to trade with US companies by suspending the trade restrictions again. The previous temporary suspension of trade restrictions expires Monday. In addition, US President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are due to call each other this weekend about the Huawei situation, Reuters sources said. When asked, the US Department of Commerce would not confirm that the waiver will be extended, but will issue a statement on the situation on Monday.
Although Huawei is temporarily allowed to trade with American companies again, it needs separate permission to buy components from American companies. It is possible for companies to request a license for this.
In principle, Huawei has to deal with restrictions imposed in May that prevent it from trading with American companies. That’s because US authorities see Huawei as a threat, following allegations of espionage. At the end of June, the trade ban was already temporarily suspended and now it seems that the suspension has been extended.
