US FTC also worries about Nvidia’s acquisition of Arm

The US market regulator FTC has expressed concerns at Nvidia about the planned acquisition of processor company Arm. The British regulator already started an investigation into the takeover earlier this week.

Financial director Colette Kress says in a discussion of the quarterly figures that the FTC knocked on Nvidia. “The FTC has expressed concerns about the transaction and we are in discussions with them about action to address those concerns.” Nvidia does not provide details about what specific concerns FTC has.

The FTC is not the first regulator to look into the acquisition. The British regulator announced earlier this week to investigate the takeover in more depth. The European Commission is also investigating the takeover and recently said it would also investigate the takeover more extensively. An investigation is also underway in China. Nvidia still wants to buy Arm.

Nvidia announced in September 2020 that it plans to acquire Arm for $40 billion from SoftBank. At the time, the company said it thought approval for the acquisition could take a year and a half; that term will expire in a few months.
