US company releases HDMI cables with RGB lighting from $150 vanaf

American company Vivify has released two HDMI cables with RGB lighting. The Arquus W73 will be available in 2.7-meter and 4.5-meter variants, priced at $150 and $200 respectively. According to the company, they are the first HDMI cables with RGB lighting.

With the Arquus W73 cables, Vivify continues the trend around RGB lighting. Users can now purchase products such as SSDs, power cables, sound cards and gaming chairs with RGB lighting. The Arquus W73 supports seven different colors and is currently available at a discounted price.

Vivify’s cables have a bandwidth of 18Gbit/s and support the HDMI 2.0b standard. Support for HDMI 2.1 is therefore missing. This allows the cables to work at maximum 4k resolutions with 60Hz, 1440p up to 144Hz and 1080p with up to 240Hz. The cables also support 4:4:4 color and HDR signals. Such HDMI 2.0b cables with certified support for HDR are available on web shops such as Amazon for about 20 euros, but without RGB lighting.

The cables use fiber optic, which should, among other things, lead to less signal loss than standard cables, which are usually made of copper. Perhaps the use of fiberglass also makes the lighting easier to see. In practice, users will hardly notice the technical advantages of fiber optics, as the cables are up to 4.5 meters long. Signal loss only becomes a problem with longer cables.

The 2.7 meter variant is currently available for $80, the 4.5 meter for $100. Converted and including VAT, this is about 87 and 109 euros respectively. However, the standard prices of the two models are $150 and $200. Converted and with VAT that is 165 and 220 euros. Soon the cables will also be officially released in Europe via Amazon.
