Uploader puts early Polaris build of Windows Core OS online
A developer version of Windows Core Polaris has appeared on the web. The version of PolarisOS comes from 2018 and seems to be mainly aimed at less powerful devices. The leaked version has no shell and drivers must be loaded manually.
The leaked version of the OS comes from a user called Scamdisk, who has frequently published early builds of Windows operating systems. “The image is old enough that it contains no more than just the OS itself,” he writes. The version of PolarisOS does not contain a shell and it cannot be loaded, says Scamdisk. Users also have to install the drivers themselves. Scamdisk also says it couldn’t get the OS up and running itself due to a lack of compatible devices, so it doesn’t have any screenshots yet.
The download will only work on Arm32 devices, according to Scamdisk, confirming that PolarisOS was likely intended primarily for less powerful devices such as phones and tablets. Polaris was based on Windows Core OS, a basis for an operating system that Microsoft has been working on for several years.
Core OS is a universal core for different Windows versions, on which, for example, Windows 10X and the software of the Hololens 2 are based. The Surface Hub 2X would also be based on Windows Core OS, but Microsoft canceled that plan.
