Upcoming OnePlus 10T will not get an alert slider

OnePlus has not built an alert slider into its upcoming 10T smartphone. The company motivates the choice by stating that the space is needed for a larger battery, faster charging and a better antenna. The Hasselblad brand on the camera will also be absent.

To keep the alert slider, OnePlus should have stacked the motherboard, which would make the device thicker, OnePlus chief designer Hope Liu explains. The company didn’t want that. The slider takes up 30 square millimeters on the inside, which Liu says is “relatively a lot.” It opted for removal to “ensure the phone performs in the areas that matter most to our users.”

The alert slider allows users to set the phone to silent, vibrate and loud without having to leave the phone in their pocket. OnePlus is the only Android smartphone with this feature. Apple’s iPhones also have such sliders. The OnePlus smartphones have had the slider since the OnePlus 2 from 2015.

The motivation for omitting the Hasselblad brand on the back of the phone is more about the cost. OnePlus “wanted to offer an ultimate performance flagship smartphone at the chosen price point.” What that price will be is not yet known.

It is known in the camera field that the main camera is a 50-megapixel sensor, a Sony IMX766. This will capture 10-bit color and offer “enhanced HDR photography.” OnePlus’ implementation of night mode is also present again.

Furthermore, Liu tells The Verge that the display is 6.7 inches in diagonal, but the resolution and refresh rate are not yet known. The related 10R and 10 Pro both have 120Hz displays and resolutions of 1080p and 1440p respectively. Further wash already known that the phone will get a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. In any case, more information from OnePlus will follow during the official release time on August 3 at 4 p.m. Dutch time.

There are also rumors about the specs of the 10 Pro. A usually reliable Chinese leaker on Weibo speaks of the possibility of charging at a maximum of 150W. The battery capacity is 4800mAh, this person claims, and the screen would get a 120Hz rate with 1080p resolution.

OnePlus provided this image to The Verge for the occasion.
