Unihertz makes small Jelly Star smartphone with 3″ screen

Chinese brand Unihertz has announced the Jelly Star smartphone and put it on Kickstarter. It is a small device with a 3″ LCD with 854×480 pixels. At 95x50mm, the phone is one of the smallest Android smartphones on the market.

Unihertz put the Jelly Star on Kickstarter, where it was released within five minutes achieved the low target. At the time of writing, there are just over 1,250 backers who have forked out just over $200,000 to get the smartphone. The smartphone costs around 150 euros in the campaign.

The phone has a housing of 95x50x18mm and weighs 116g. The housing contains a 2000mAh battery that can be charged with 10W. The phone has a MediaTek Helio G99 SoC with two Arm Cortex A76 cores up to 2.2GHz and six A55 cores up to 2.0GHz, assisted by a Mali G57MC2 GPU. The phone has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The camera has a maximum resolution of 48 megapixels; there are no further details.

Unlocking is done with the fingerprint scanner on the back. The device also has a USB-C port, infrared transmitter and 3.5mm jack. In terms of wireless networks, the Jelly Star has a maximum of 4G and no 5G. It supports WiFi via 802.11ac. The design is transparent with large notification LEDs, inspired by the Nothing Phone. The phone should be delivered in October.

Unihertz is a Chinese brand that focuses on niche phones, of which the Jelly series are the small phones. The brand consistently raises money through Kickstarter. This happened previously with, among others, the Jelly 2 and the Jelly.
