Underestimation of popularity of Galaxy S6 Edge would reduce sales Samsung

Samsung has given a first indication of its turnover and profit in recent months, which are disappointing. Despite the fact that many people have bought a Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge, the profit and sales will still decrease compared to last year.

An anonymous source told business newspaper The Wall Street Journal that Samsung had set up its production facilities to make four regular Galaxy S6 copies for each Galaxy S6 Edge. However, deliveries would be about the same for both devices, so it delivered far fewer of its Edge devices than could have been. In addition, there is an unsold stock of mainly white Galaxy S6 copies, the newspaper claims.

It is unknown whether Samsung could have produced many more. The production of curved screens probably has even lower yields than regular OLED screens. Last year it released its Galaxy Note Edge in a limited edition, but this spring the S6 Edge featured in many Samsung advertisements.

Samsung expects it to have turnover of between 47 and 49 trillion Korean won in recent months, currently around 37 billion euros. The profit would be between 6.7 and 7.1 trillion won, approximately around 5.3 billion euros. Both are lower than in the same period last year. Samsung will announce its final quarterly figures at the end of this month.
