UK police seize 133 million euros in cryptocurrency after money laundering investigation
London police have seized £114 million worth of cryptocurrency. Converted this is about 133 million euros. Police claim it is a record amount of seized cryptocurrencies in the United Kingdom.
The London police do not say what kind of cryptocurrency is involved. Police do say that the cryptocurrency was seized after investigations by detectives specializing in money laundering crimes. The detectives received information about ‘the transfer of criminal assets’. The investigation is still ongoing, according to police.
Police write that it is the largest cryptocurrency seizure in the United Kingdom “and we believe it is also one of the largest in the world.” It’s not the largest in the world anyway; for example, US authorities seized 69,369 bitcoin linked to Silk Road last November. At the time, that was about 813 million euros.
