Ubuntu tablets with convergence cost 250 and 290 euros

The BQ Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition, the first tablet to use the Ubuntu Touch operating system, comes in two models. The cheaper model costs 250 euros and has a resolution of 1280×800 pixels. A model with a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels costs 290 euros.

For the rest, the two models are identical, with both a 10.1 “screen. Both use a 64bit MediaTek MT8163 processor, 2GB ram and 16GB flash memory. Both models are also equipped with Ubuntu 15.04, according to the Spanish manufacturer BQ. “Vivid Vervet.” The tablets will ship from the second week of April, one week before the release of Ubuntu 16.04 “Xenial Xerus.” According to Canonical, the M10 models are the first in a line of converged devices.

Convergence is the option to use an Ubuntu mobile device as a full-fledged PC by attaching a keyboard, mouse and monitor to the smartphone or tablet. Furthermore, the tablets offer support for the applications from the Ubuntu App Store and there is a side stage option, a way to show two applications on the screen.

The Aquaris M10 is already available with Android 5.1. During the Mobile World Congress, Canonical and BQ announced that they would also come up with a model with Ubuntu Touch. According to Canonical, a smartphone with convergence will also be released soon.
