Ubuntu tablet with convergence will be on sale from the second quarter
Canonical and the Spanish company BQ have officially announced the Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition tablet and reported that the tablet will be available for purchase through BQ’s web store from the second quarter of this year. It is the first of a series of converged devices with Ubuntu.
According to Canonical, the tablet, whose arrival has already been confirmed, will be delivered with ‘the latest version of Ubuntu’. Since Ubuntu 16.04 ‘Xenial Xerus’ comes out on April 21, the release of the tablet is likely to follow soon. Canonical reports that it is the first in a series of devices with convergence.
This refers to the ability to pair an Ubuntu tablet or smartphone with a keyboard, external monitor, and mouse to use it as a full-fledged PC. The BQ Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition is a 10″ tablet with full HD resolution, a 64bit MediaTek MT8163 processor, 2GB ram and 16GB flash memory. The tablet is 8.2mm thick and weighs 470 grams with a battery capacity of 7280mAh.
Like Ubuntu Phone, the device has support for scopes, a kind of home screens for content categories, and apps from the Ubuntu App Store. In addition, there is a side stage option to show two applications on the screen.
Previously released as the Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition and the Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Edition smartphones from BQ. Soon there will also be a smartphone with convergence, Canonical promises.
