Ubisoft’s Chief Creative Officer and two other leaders resign from office
At the French Ubisoft, the chief creative officer, the global head of HR and the managing director of Canadian studios have resigned immediately. The first of those three, Serge Hascoët, has been described as “the man in charge of all Ubisoft games.”
The three are leaving amid “recent allegations and allegations of misconduct,” let Ubisoft know. The HR head in question is Cécile Cornet and the head of Canadian studios is Yannis Mallat. Cornet of HR is only said to step out of her role, but not emphatically that she is leaving the company. The same is true for the other two.
In the meantime, Yves Guillemot, CEO and co-founder of Ubisoft, will take over from Hascoët as chief creative officer. “During this period, Mr. Guillemot will personally overhaul the way the creative teams work together.” The publisher also states that the company has “failed to fulfill its duty to create a safe and open workplace for its employees.” In conclusion, Guillemot states that he expects the leaders within the company to manage their teams “with the utmost respect.”
Ubisoft will not go into detail about the allegations. However, Ars Technica has coverage from multiple sources collected and summarized. There are many cases of sexual harassment against female colleagues.
Jason Schreier, Kotaku reporter for many years and now for Bloomberg, poses on Twitter that he has spoken with ‘tig’ current and former Ubisoft employees for this story and will come up with a story ‘in the near future’. At the end of last month, two leaders on inactive over similar allegations. It is not known whether Ubi CEO Guillemot was aware of these practices before the allegations came out.
