Ubisoft Bordeaux is reportedly working on a ‘pvp arena game’ with a battle royale mode. The game, currently codenamed Project Q, would have two game modes in which up to eight players in different team configurations compete for victory.

Project Q is a competitive game where matches are fought on a small scale, reports the usually well-informed leaker Tom Henderson via eXputer. He is said to have spoken to eight sources who received an invitation to a playtest of the unannounced game. Project Q first surfaced in September of 2021 when Nvidia GeForce Now accidentally listed the game.

The game would, at least during this testing phase, consist of Battle Zone and Showdown modes. The latter mode is a small-scale battle royale in which four teams of two players try to survive alone. The Battle Zone mode uses the arena format where two larger teams of four players try to be the first to reach 100 points. The mode is compared by Henderson to Hardpoint from the Call of Duty franchise; In that case, teams have to hold different locations for as long as possible to earn points.

Henderson also reports that he has seen gameplay footage from Project Q and describes the game’s visual style as similar to Knockout City and Overwatch. Both games have a cartoonish graphic style.

It is not the first time that Ubisoft has made a battle royale, although the French publisher’s most recent attempt failed. Hyper Scape was announced in the summer of 2020, but it soon turned out that the battle royale did not meet the company’s expectations. In January of 2022, Ubisoft announced that it would stop developing the game. As of April 28, there will be no more servers available for the game and Hyper Scape will no longer be playable.
