Ubisoft reports postponement of Skull and Bones and possibly also Star Wars Outlaws
Ubisoft says in an explanation of the quarterly figures that Skull and Bones will not be released until early 2024. Furthermore, another ‘big game’ has been postponed. Although no specific title is mentioned, according to various sources it is Star Wars Outlaws.
In a explanatory notes to the quarterly figures Ubisoft says that the multiple-delayed Skull and Bones will be released in the fourth quarter of this fiscal year, which means sometime in the first three months of 2024. The pirate game was so far expected to be released ‘early’ in the current financial year, although the release date has already been postponed several times. The pirate game was announced in 2017.
In the same document, Ubisoft indicates that an operating income of 400 million euros should be achieved due to a good second quarter of the 2023 financial year. “We will achieve this without releasing the other major game, which was originally scheduled to be released in the last quarter of this fiscal year. Ubisoft has decided not to release this game until fiscal year 2024 to achieve maximum value creation.”
Below that, the company mentions that there are more games planned for release this fiscal year, including Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR, Prince of Persia The Lost Crown, The Division Resurgence, Rainbow Six Mobile and XDefiant. The publisher says nothing about Star Wars Outlaws, which should be released sometime in 2024. In May wrote Kotaku on the other hand, based on various sources, the upcoming Star Wars game should be released in this financial year, i.e. early 2024. Various media, including VGC, therefore conclude that the postponement of the unknown game probably refers to the Star Wars game in question. Financial year 2024 runs from April 2024 to April 2025.
