Ubisoft removes ‘Tom Clancy’ from upcoming shooter XDefiant
Ubisoft’s upcoming shooter XDefiant is no longer called Tom Clancy’s XDefiant. The publisher has decided to drop the Tom Clancy label, as the game also features factions unrelated to the Tom Clancy franchise.
Ubisoft writes in a blog that XDefiant is still being worked on and that there will be ‘insider sessions’ soon. Presumably it concerns the first alpha tests of the game. In the message, Ubisoft also announced that the game will no longer have the Tom Clancy label and will simply be called XDefiant.
This choice was made based on the factions that Ubisoft has added to the game. According to the publisher, there are factions in the game that are not part of the Tom Clancy universe. That is why Ubisoft has decided to no longer provide the game with this label.
XDefiant was announced last year as a free-to-play multiplayer shooter. In the game, teams of six compete in battle arenas. At that time, four factions that characters can belong to were already announced: Outcasts, Echelon, Cleaners and Wolves. These factions are inspired by factions from The Division and Ghost Recon. So now there are even more factions.
It is not yet clear when the game will be released. However, those interested can sign up for the test sessions to try the game. The game will be released on as many platforms as possible and should be released for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Google Stadia, Amazon Luna and for PC.
