Ubisoft and developer Blue Byte have released a new trailer of The Settlers at the gamescom fair in Cologne. In addition, the companies have also announced that the game will be postponed until sometime in 2020.

The game is only available for PC and is currently available for pre-order through the Ubisoft Store and the Epic Games Store, although a release date has not yet been announced. Ubisoft lists a December 31, 2020 release in its own store, but that’s probably just a placeholder. Exactly one year ago, at gamescom in 2018, Ubisoft announced that The Settlers would be released in the fall of this year. Released during that period, Blue Byte’s new title would hit the market 25 years after the original Settlers game. It is unknown why the release is being delayed.

Ubisoft did come out with more information about the game. For example, there are more paths that lead to victory, such as the way of large armies and battles to conquer territories. But there’s also a strategy where you pick a hero to go head to head against a hero from another faction in a one-on-one battle. The loser’s faction becomes disaffected, leaving his territory in rebellion to take. In addition, there will be a strategy in which faith plays a role.

The Settlers is made by Volker Wertich, the man behind the original from 1991. According to him, the game is a combination of classic features from The Settlers, combined with new systems. In the new title, players will be able to play a single player campaign, skirmish mode and multiplayer in both pvp and pve modes. The game is made with Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine.
