Ubisoft has announced that Ubisoft Montpeller Studio is developing a successor to Beyond Good & Evil. The game studio also indicates that the original game will be available for free download for PC from October 12.

The game studio announces on its Facebook page that Michel Ancel is working on the game. Details and data are not shared. Ancel previously led development on the original Beyond Good & Evil; he is the creator of the popular Rayman series.

Beyond Good & Evil is an adventure game that came out in 2003. Michel Ancel originally planned to make a trilogy of the game, but due to the limited success of the game, it seemed that nothing would come of it for a long time. A remake was released in 2011 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

In 2008, Ubisoft announced that it was working on a successor to the game. However, development was slow and in the following years conflicting reports of progress appeared. The Facebook post published by Ubisoft on Thursday is the first official confirmation from the studio itself that the game is still actively being worked on.

A day earlier, the game studio announced on the same page that the original Beyond Good & Evil will be available for free from October 12 to celebrate Ubisoft’s 30th anniversary.
