Ubisoft closes Vancouver studio

French publisher Ubisoft has closed one of its development studios. It concerns the studio in the Canadian city of Vancouver, which in the past was responsible for, among other things, the unsuccessful football game Pure Futbol.

Ubisoft confirms difficult decision to close Vancouver development studio said a spokesperson for the company against the American games magazine and website Game Informer. “Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to find the right formula for success for Ubisoft Vancouver’s talented team,” the spokesperson said.

Ubisoft states that Ubisoft Vancouver employees will be offered other positions within Ubisoft. The company will guide the developers in finding other work, whether inside or outside Ubisoft.

Ubisoft Vancouver had been owned by the French publisher since Ubisoft developed studio Action Pants Inc. in 2009. took over. The studio developed for Ubisoft football game Pure Futbol. That game was distinguished by the presence of various classic players such as Pélé, Cantona and George Best. The game nevertheless disappointed; internationally, the Xbox 360 version of the game scored according to Metacritic averaged a 3.8 and the PlayStation 3 version a 4.6.
