Ubisoft brings Snowdrop engine ray tracing and more innovations to Avatar game
Ubisoft has provided more details about innovations coming to the Snowdrop engine for the Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora game. That game will be released next year for the new consoles, Windows and cloud services.
During E3, Ubisoft showed the first images of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and it was announced that the game will be released next year. In a new video, the developers of Massive Entertainment now provide more details about the creation.
The game is made with the Snowdrop engine. It was developed by Massive in collaboration with Ubisoft and used for The Division and The Division 2, among others. Avatar game display.
The developers talk about a new micro-detail system with which thousands of assets can be processed in a frame. Vegetation can be placed automatically and the engine has received new interactive shaders that, for example, ensure that plants react to the wind.
Ubisoft and Massive are also giving the Snowdrop engine support for ray tracing. The technique is used in Avatar for global illumination and reflections. Also, the new version of the engine is better able to display realistic skies, thanks to a volumetric cloud system.
The Snowdrop engine is also used for the Star Wars open world game that Ubisoft is working on. It goes without saying that that title can also benefit from the improvements that are being made to the engine. The same goes for other upcoming Ubisoft titles.
