Ubisoft: big advertisement in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey was not the intention

A number of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey players were shown a large advertisement for Assassin’s Creed Mirage when opening the in-game map. According to Ubisoft, this was due to a ‘technical error’. The company does not say anything about the nature of this error.

Several players of the Xbox and PlayStation versions of AC Odyssey noticed the ad and complained about it on sites including the Xbox One subreddit. A user shows in a video that he received a full-screen advertisement for AC Mirage, the latest game in the Assassin’s Creed series, after opening the in-game map. Other users called the ad placement ‘disgusting’ and ‘unacceptable’.

Ubisoft says in a response The Verge that it is aware of the complaints and that the advertisement did not belong there. “That was the result of a technical error, which we resolved after learning of the problem,” a company spokesperson told the news website. Ubisoft does not explain exactly how the advertisement was shown when opening the map.
