Ubisoft bans homemade AC: Odyssey quests to level up quickly
Ubisoft will no longer allow players to use Story Creator Mode to create quests that allow players to quickly earn experience points. This tool aims to let players create their own stories in the world of Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey.
Ubisoft states in a forum post that players make so-called ‘farming quests’ to quickly gain a lot of experience points and thereby in fact abuse the Story Creator Mode. The publisher calls it exploits that “could compromise the overall quality, integrity and purpose of Story Creator Mode and result in less visibility for the creative, interesting and fantastic stories published by the community”.
The French game publisher is going to adjust the conditions of the tool to prevent creators from making stories that mainly revolve around quickly accumulating experience points. In addition, Ubisoft says that the farming quests will no longer appear in the automatic recommendation system. Those who knowingly continue to make these kinds of quests will face sanctions from Ubisoft, although the company does not say what the measures are.
An example of a quest where experience points can be earned quickly is a “story” where NPCs appear and instantly defeat enemies in front of the player. In this way, the player earns experience points within a few seconds and can level up faster. If this process is repeated, it is possible to rake in relatively many points in a short time.
One of the reasons that Ubisoft is acting against these specific player creations is presumably the fact that the publisher itself sells microtransactions, including “xp boosters” to increase the player’s level more quickly.
