During talks with investors, Yves Guillemot, co-founder and president of Ubisoft, has revealed that annual releases of Assassin’s Creed will not be the target again immediately. This will remain the case even after the planned break for 2016.

Since Assassin’s Creed II was released in 2009, the series has become one of Ubisoft’s annual releases. With the previously announced hiatus for the series in 2016, this trend is being reversed. During a round of questions with investors, it was asked whether Assassin’s Creed will be an annual release after its return in 2017. Guillemot said that Ubisoft wants to continue publishing the game series on a regular basis, but that the annual goal is not automatically. This is evident from the coverage of media that were able to follow the conversations, such as GamesIndustry.biz.

Nevertheless, financial director Alain Martinez indicated that if the next game goes in the right direction, it is possible that the sequel could come as early as next year. The next Assassin’s Creed is scheduled for 2017 and is rumored to take place in Egypt. The publisher did not want to confirm this, although it did say that the game will not take place at the time of the Inquisition in Spain. That is the setting for the AC film that is due out this year. The reason for the break from Assassin’s Creed’s annual release routine is the disappointing sales of AC: Unity and AC: Syndicate.

During the presentation of its quarterly results, Ubisoft already announced that the sequel to Watch Dogs and the new South park game The Fractured but Whole will be released in April 2017. It also announced that it is working on a completely new triple-a-game. During talks with investors, Ubisoft said that this new game will focus on multiplayer, but will still include a single player campaign.
