A British judge has ruled that Uber may again offer services in London. The company receives a license for a probationary period of fifteen months, which also requires it to meet a number of conditions.

According to Business Insider, the judge has ruled that Uber can again offer services in the British capital, but for now that is limited to a probation period of 15 months and must allow Uber several independent investigations, reports of major safety complaints, training drivers on driving safety and report any data breaches.

Uber has admitted to the court that Transport for London correctly revoked its license last year. The company said it has made significant improvements since the license was revoked, such as creating a security number that drivers and passengers can call 24 hours a day. As a result, an app is no longer needed to, for example, pass on complaints or ask questions. The company also acknowledged using the Grayball tool to deceive authorities. This tool provided authorities with fake versions of the Uber app, which included removing fake rides from the driver’s phone.

Despite granting the temporary permit, the presiding judge expressed skepticism, stating that Uber thought it was above the law. She also pointed to several serious cases of driver behavior in which Uber did not take measures for a long time. Uber must pay Transport for London’s legal costs.

Last September, Transport for London decided not to renew Uber’s license to hire taxi drivers. The agency found that Uber showed a lack of responsibility and acted impropriety in reporting criminal activity, which Transport for London said had implications for public safety in London.
