Uber is no longer allowed to offer its services in London. The company’s license to hire taxi drivers will expire at the end of this month, but the Transport for London authority is not renewing it. Uber claims to have millions of users in the British capital.

Uber’s behavior as a company shows a lack of accountability, poses Transport for London in a statement. Among other things, the authority denounces deficiencies in reporting criminal activity, which has implications for public safety in London. The Mayor of London supports the decision. Uber does not agree with the decision and is appealing the decision.

In a statement to British media outlets such as The Guardian, Uber claims to have 3.5 million users of its app in London while 40,000 drivers in the city are said to work for the service. Uber further states that the decision shows that ‘London is not open to innovation’.

Uber’s license expires on September 30. However, Uber may still be able to continue to offer its services in the British capital for some time after this date. Uber now has 21 days to appeal against Transport for London’s decision. Uber may continue to operate in London until any appeals against this decision have been completed.
