Twitter wants to build in ‘whisper function’ and group conversations

Twitter would like to make a feature to discuss public tweets privately with friends. That says the director of the social network in a video interview. This ‘whisper’ feature with group conversations would presumably coexist with the current direct message capability.

The current possibility to exchange private messages is limited to conversations with a person and also does not start with a particular tweet from the public timeline. Twitter CEO Dick Costolo says in a video interview with Bloomberg that he wants to build in a feature that allows users to initiate group conversations based on a public tweet.

The function should above all work simply, Costolo thinks. “There are often public conversations that you then want to grab and then say to a friend in ‘whisper mode’ “hey, this happened, look what these people are talking about, what do you think about this?” multiple friends. So being able to easily switch between that public conversation and a private one is something we’re going to make easier.”

Costolo does not specify what the feature will be called and when Twitter will release it. He does say that Twitter does experiments in its mobile apps on a daily basis; at first, only a few people will see those changes and if it works properly, Twitter will release the change to all users.
