Twitter tests Notes writing tool among small group of users
Twitter is working on a new writing tool called Notes. The tool lets users write a longer piece of text in a word processor, after which they can share the text via a link. Notes is currently being tested among a small group of users.
A tweet can contain up to 280 characters. With Notes users can write pieces of text up to 2500 words and share them without having to create a thread with several Tweets. The title can be up to 100 characters long.
The longer posts are referred to as ‘Comments’ by Twitter† These can be shared via a link on Twitter, but the link also works outside the platform. Any longer post a user makes can be found in the Comments tab on their Twitter page. Users can provide the link to the Comment with a header photo. It is also possible to place images in the word processor. In addition, the author can edit the Comment as desired. After that, the piece is labeled ‘Edited’. If the user chooses to shield their tweets, then the links in tweets to Comments are also shielded. Because the published Comments each have their own URL, they can be read by anyone, whether the reader has a Twitter account or not.
Notes test is not available in all countries. That’s why not all Twitter users can see the Comments yet. It is not yet known when Notes will be rolled out to all users.
