Twitter tests function to remove followers without blocking them

Twitter is working on the ability to remove followers without blocking them. Twitter Support says it is currently testing this feature for web users. Now users can only block people if they don’t want them to follow them.

The new feature adds an option to the options menu on the follower page on Twitter, explains Twitter Support. In addition to muting, reporting and blocking an account, the user can also remove a follower. The follower will not be notified of the removal, but will be able to follow a user again, unlike when the follower is blocked.

Twitter has not yet announced when it will roll out the feature to more users, but the option is currently being tested for users of the web version. Twitter does say that it should be easier to manage the follower list.

Twitter regularly tests new features in the fight against harassment and unwanted comments. In July, Twitter announced that it would be possible to select which users can reply to a tweet and which cannot, even after posting a tweet. That was already possible before posting a message. And Twitter also started a test in August in which users can report misleading tweets, including if there is intimidation.
