Twitter shuts down Vine
Twitter is going to stop Vine, the app that allows short videos of six seconds to be published. A reason for the shutdown has not been given, but the message comes on the day Twitter announces layoffs.
Vine reports that the mobile app will be discontinued sometime in the coming months. For now, the service will continue to function as usual. More details about the shutdown are yet to come, according to the team behind Vine. The team does not give a reason.
It is clear that things are not going well for Twitter, the company that owns Vine. On Thursday, Twitter announced a quarterly loss of $103 million and it is implementing a restructuring that will cut nine percent of its global workforce.
Vine was founded in 2012 and was also acquired by Twitter that year. The service has had to deal with increased competition from Instagram in particular in recent years.
