Twitter has begun to shield sensitive images from users under the age of 18 who have not entered a date of birth. Twitter only shows some messages if users enter their date of birth, to show that they are 18 years or older.

The change was noticed by mainly US users, according to TechCrunch. Twitter tells the tech site that it is indeed becoming stricter in its policy to shield certain images to protect its users. Twitter does not specify whether this is just US or global policy.

A Twitter spokesperson said: “We are constantly working to give people more control and choice over their experience, as well as to make Twitter safer for everyone. So we are slowly rolling out a new feature that will allow users under the age of 18 or who are not date of birth are not allowed to see certain content”.

Twitter has long struggled to moderate the content on the platform. This ranges from violent images to hateful messages. It was the reason for Disney not to buy the platform in 2016. Currently, Twitter is in the process of finalizing a deal with Elon Musk. The billionaire wants to buy the platform for 44 billion.
