Twitter plans to pay verified users for ads in comments

Elon Musk says Twitter will start paying creators for ads in comments in a few weeks. Only ‘verified users’ are eligible for payment and only ads shown to verified users count.

Verified users include Twitter accounts with a blue check mark next to their name. A few months ago, the old verification system was adjusted, so that as a rule, only users with a subscription to Twitter Blue still receive a blue verification check mark next to their name. They have to cope with that Twitter’s terms and conditions to fulfil. It is not known how much money content creators will receive for not doing so posting ads in comments.

Twitter has struggled to retain advertisers since the takeover of the Tesla CEO in October 2022. According to The New York Times, Twitter’s advertising revenue in America has fallen by almost 60 percent. The news that Twitter wants to start paying verified users for ads in comments comes just days after Linda Yaccarino has stepped into the role of CEO of Twitter.

In a few weeks, X/Twitter will start paying creators for ads served in their replies. First block payment totals $5M.

Note, the creator must be verified and only ads served to verified users count.
