Twitter plans to make edit button free for everyone

Elon Musk, as the owner of Twitter, plans to make the edit button available to all users, at no cost. At least that’s what Casey Newton, founder of the news website Platformer and former editor at The Verge, says.

According to Newton This adjustment is being worked on, although it is unclear when exactly it will be available. This edit button has been available since early last month as part of the existing Twitter Blue subscription, which costs $5 a month and is only available in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. This button allows users to edit a message within 30 minutes and also contains a history of all edits.

Owner Musk has not officially said anything about this current plan with the edit button. That already happened in the spring when he was still the largest shareholder of Twitter. Then he asked on the platform if users wanted an edit button. In total voted some 4.4 million users and almost three quarters said ‘yes’. On the same day, Twitter confirmed that it has been working on this button since 2021. It would be a much sought after option.

In the meantime, Elon Musk has made it clear that the Blue subscription is about to be overhauled. It will cost $8 a month in the US and will include account verification. Musk sees little value in the current system of having and not having such a check mark for verification. Currently there is no need to pay for such a blue tick. The Blue plan will also have half as many ads.
