Twitter has been working on an edit button for tweets since last year. It allows Twitter users to edit their tweet after publishing. The feature will be tested first among Twitter Blue subscribers. It is not yet known when it will be available to everyone.

The social media platform already had the function announced on April 1but was not believed at the time. Users have been asking for an edit button for years, which Twitter did not want to add. “If you send a text, you can’t take it back or edit it,” Twitter founder Jack Dorsey said in a statement interview with Wired in 2020. “We want to keep that feeling.”

Now Twitter wants to add an edit button anyway, writes the company on Tuesday. It will be rolled out to Twitter Blue subscribers first. Among this group of testers, Twitter wants to see “what works and what doesn’t work”. Blue is a service that allows users to access additional features for a fee. It is now only available in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

On Tuesday, Elon Musk posted a poll, asking Twitter users if they want an edit button. Nearly 74 percent of voters said yes. Parag Agrawal, the current CEO of Twitter, responded to the poll with your own message. In it, he asks voters to “vote carefully” and says that the “outcome of the poll is important”. Musk has been a board member at Twitter since Monday and is the largest shareholder in the company.
