Twitter is working on a feature to edit tweets within half a minute
Twitter is working on a function to edit tweets, for example to fix a typo. According to director Jack Dorsey, this is a feature that gives users between five and thirty seconds to edit the tweet.
Other users can then look up the original tweet, Dorsey said in an interview with Joe Rogan. Dorsey has not said when the feature will be ready and when it will go live. The function to edit tweets is a much requested feature within Twitter, but it has not been available until now.
According to Dorsey, the lack of the possibility makes sense because of the ‘real-time’ element of Twitter. “It depends on the context. When you’re in a sports game, you want to be fast and in the moment. You want to be raw. But when you’re in the context of a consideration of what the president just said or did and there if you make a statement about it, you might want a little more time. And we can be flexible about that.”
It is unknown exactly what the function will look like. According to Dorsey, it once made sense not to be able to edit tweets because Twitter is based on texting, a feature that message editing never had.
