Twitter is testing ‘unmention’ feature for users

Twitter is testing a feature that will remove mentions, directly mentioning and linking to a user’s username. This feature allows users to ‘remove’ themselves from a conversation on the platform.

Twitter says that it is experimenting with this ‘unmention’ function. The company sees it as a way to create a little more peace of mind for users. This option appears in the menu that appears in the web version of Twitter in the upper-right corner of messages.

This feature allows users to remove themselves from conversations. That doesn’t mean that the user’s name will also disappear from a tweet, but the username tag will disappear. Any future notifications also stop in the conversation in question, and that also applies to the passing on of notifications.

Currently, the option to leave conversations is only available in the web version of Twitter. It is also still limited to an unnamed, limited group of users. It is unknown when the feature will become more widely available and also applicable to other platforms, such as the mobile apps.
