Twitter is going to urge all users to read the article before retweeting it
Twitter is going to urge all users worldwide who retweet an article to read the article first. In addition, the social network shows the message ‘headlines do not tell the whole story’. Twitter has already tested the function with a small group of users.
According to Twitter, the test that started in June has been successful. People would be 40 percent more likely open an article after they see the notification. The number of people who first opened an article before retweeting it increased by 33 percent. Sometimes people would not have posted the retweets after opening the article in question. Twitter does not provide percentages of this.
Twitter says the report will be made smaller and shows a new example. People would understand after seeing the notification once. Furthermore, the social network indicates that the notification will soon be shown to everyone worldwide. It is not yet known exactly when that will happen.
Users can also ignore the warning and retweet articles without opening them first. Twitter previously stated that the feature is intended to “ stimulate informed discussion. ” Sharing articles can cause controversy, so it’s a good thing people read before sharing, the company says.
