The number of active users on Twitter is increasing less quickly than before. The last quarter added 14 million active users; in recent years, the microblogging network has grown much faster. In addition, Twitter made a lot of loss in the past year.

Investors in Twitter are concerned that the service will not grow as quickly as before, The New York Times writes, despite the number of active users increasing by 25 percent compared to a year ago to 255 million. Twitter has recently been listed on the stock exchange.

Of the 255 million users, 198 million logged in through the company’s mobile apps. Twitter users together viewed their timeline 157 billion times, or 614 times per user. That is only once more than a year earlier. Twitter now earns $1.44 in ad revenue per thousand timeline views; that is 5 cents less than a quarter earlier.

Twitter’s revenue rose spectacularly from $114.3 million a year ago to $250.5 million, the vast majority of which came in through advertisements. At the same time, however, the loss also increased: that increased from $ 27 million to $ 132.2 million. However, that is largely due to a number of one-off costs Twitter incurred and the issuance of shares to employees; if these are not included, Twitter makes a modest profit of 183,000 euros.
