Twitter founder Jack Dorsey’s Square changes name to Block
The Square company, known as a payment processor and founded by Twitter founder Jack Dorsey, is changing its name to Block. Nothing will change, the company says. Square will remain the name of the payment service that the company operates.
Square started out as a payments service, but now has multiple brands and services, so it was time to change the name, the company says. The name change is not yet complete, because that will only happen next week. However, all the company’s social media channels have been adjusted and the new site is live. The company also has a new logo.
The best-known name outside Square itself is music service Tidal, but Block also has the brands Cash App and crypto service TBD54566975. Dorsey will stay on as director of Block. He recently resigned from his position as CEO of Twitter.
