Twitter conducts experiment with product pages
Twitter is currently experimenting with product pages. The company announced this on Friday. Thanks to the pages, Twitter users can find information about products and, if desired, buy products directly.
As an example, Twitter lists a page from Andy Weir’s book “The Martian.” It shows images of the book and relevant tweets. In addition, the page shows the current price and the book can be purchased immediately. In addition to products, Twitter is also conducting tests with pages of places.
Twitter says it is currently experimenting with a small number of pages. “While we’re testing, you may see pages or collections of pages shared by influential Twitterers and people in your timeline,” thus the company in a blog post.
Finally, Twitter is conducting trials with collections. These are pages of well-known Twitter users and brands where they share their favorite products and places. Company leave see a collection by Demi Lovato as an example. Collections can be viewed via Twitter’s website, and iOS and Android apps.
It seems that with the product pages and collections, Twitter wants to make its social network more important again. The service has been struggling with a lack of growth for some time. As a result, the share on the stock market already fell by 42 percent. This put such pressure on the management that, among other things, director Dick Costolo resigned from his position.
Recently, the innovations to Twitter have followed each other in rapid succession. From July, for example, Twitter will allow users to send personal messages that consist of more than 140 characters. In addition, the site will now allow videos to automatically play in timelines. The site would also be working on a separate Twitter feed within its apps that is compiled by editors, it was also announced Friday.
