Twitter can block links that glorify or promote hatred or violence
Twitter has announced a policy change that will make its policy on hate speech and violence in tweets also applicable to links posted on the platform.
Twitter announces that hate speech and violence are now also link categories that can be blocked. Accounts dedicated to sharing these types of links may be suspended, the platform said. This new policy takes effect on July 30.
According to Twitter, the goal of this tightened policy is to achieve consistency with the way tweets can be removed if rules are broken. The platform tightened up all its policy on hate messages in November 2017. This policy could more or less be circumvented by tweeting links with hate messages or violence.
The tightening of the policy regarding these unwanted links means that a notification can appear when a user clicks on such a link. The link can also be blocked. When users paste a blocked link into a tweet or direct message, an error message with a short explanation follows.
