Twitter board member Dorsey: Musk takeover is ‘only solution I trust’

Twitter co-founder and board member Jack Dorsey has expressed his support on the social medium for the takeover of the platform by Elon Musk. Dorsey says the acquisition is “the only solution I trust” and believes it is the right path for the company.

“Basically, I don’t believe anyone should own or be in charge of Twitter.” Dorsey writes on Twitter. The co-founder states that the platform ‘wants to be a public good at the protocol level’. However, the acquisition by Musk is “the only solution I trust to the problem of Twitter being a business.”

Dorsey thinks this, among other things, because Musk has said that he wants to make Twitter a platform that is ‘maximally trusted and often inclusive’. Twitter’s current CEO Parag Agrawal is said to have the same goal, which is why Dorsey chose Agrawal when the co-founder left the company.

The co-founder left Twitter last November as CEO, but will remain on the company’s board until next month. That board on Monday approved the takeover of Twitter by Musk. Shareholders still have to agree to the takeover.

In the tweets, Dorsey goes on to say that Twitter has become a business “always my only problem and my biggest regret.” Wall Street and the advertising model now own the platform; he sees the complete takeover by one person as a ‘correct first step’.
