Twitter also mainly employs white men
Like Google and Facebook, Twitter’s workforce is not very diverse. The microblogging service also mainly employs white men, according to figures released by the company on Wednesday.
Twitter’s employee base exists for 70 percent men; in the technical functions this is even 90 percent. Whites are also overrepresented: 59 percent of employees are white. Asians make up 29 percent of the workforce; three percent are Latino and only one percent are black. In management positions, even 72 percent are white.
The large number of white men at Twitter is not unique to a tech company: Facebook and Google employ roughly the same number of men, the companies announced in the spring. Nine out of ten employees at those companies are white or Asian, just like Twitter.
Twitter says it wants a more diverse workforce; in their own words, not only because research shows that diverse teams make better decisions, but also because ‘we want to be a company that we are proud of’. “We still have a lot of work to do,” Twitter admits.
