Twitch Introduces Two-Factor Authentication
Streaming site Twitch adds a new layer of security in the form of two-factor authentication. Users can voluntarily use this option, whereby a unique token is sent to the mobile phone after entering a password.
According to Twitch, user accounts can be more secure in this way.
After setting up two-factor authentication, it is only possible to log in with a combination of the password and the unique token. Without this token, the account cannot be accessed. This ensures that even if the password is known to third parties, the account is not at risk. At the beginning of this year, Twitch was still in trouble after a hack in which account information was stolen.
Twitch indicates that this form of authentication is currently only possible via SMS and the partner app Authy, so not via popular apps such as Google Authenticator. With software that uses an older authentication method, for example El Gato or Wirecast, the token must be pasted directly after the password when logging in. Setting up two-factor authentication on Twitch takes about five minutes and only requires a mobile phone number
